Carlile Ancestry Paisley Scotland
This evening I am pleased to post the results of considerable hard work cleaning the subject memorial stone at Laigh Old Kirk, Paisley, Scotland. It has taken three visits to remove a thick layer of moss and grime to render the inscription legible.This has effort has proved worthwhile because the deceased family proved to be of high status with one member being a former Provost (Mayor) of Paisley. Some 90pct of the inscription is now legible:

Thank you NIgel for your hard work. I was delighted to find this as I am researching the daughter of James Carlile (Mary Wilson) who set off for New Zealand in 1860 with her daughter and her family and eventually died in Napier. She was an interesting lady who lived a very active life in New Zealand including funding a church in Napier with donations from her relatives back in Paisley.
Interestingly Ancestry and Family Search did not provide anything as interesting and useful as your research. Google lead me to this gem!
