This evening, I am posting a video clip of a very old family memorial stone from the burial ground close to Paisley Abbey. This records:
"Robert Hart & Catharine Campbell his spouse and their children 1799".
The inscription does not assign specific dates to individuals.
Two days ago I posted a video of a memorial to William and John Hart which is located in close proximity to this one. Maybe there is a family connection?
This evening, I am posting a video clip of a very old memorial stone located at the burial ground close to Paisley Abbey. Inscription is faded but it does record the death of:
James Park, Cabinetmaker in Paisley, who died (?) July 1806 age 54.
This evening, I am posting a video clip of a Lench family memorial stone from the burial ground close to Paisley Abbey.
This elongated stone is extremely unusual and may have been intended as a marker of the burial plot. The inscription just records the names "John Lench and Elizabeth Clark and their children". No dates are given but judging from adjacent stones I would guess the date would be around 1810 (plus or minus 15 yrs).
This evening, I am posting an image of a statue erected in memory of Sir Peter Coats of Woodside who lived July 18th 1808-March 9th 1890. This statue is located close to Paisley Town Hall (in background) and was erected by public subscription Feb 26th 1898.
Sir Peter Coats was prominent in the local textile industry which helped to drive Paisley to great prosperity in the 19th and 20th centuries.
This evening, I am posting an image of a statue in Paisley centre which commemorates one of the key industrialists of the Victorian era, namely Thomas Coats of Ferguslie who lived Oct 18th 1809-Oct 16th 1883. Thomas Coats was one of the key drivers behind the growth of the thread and textile industry in Paisley which in turn generated huge wealth and employment in the era. Sadly the textile industry in Paisley is virtually defunct now although the physical legacy remains as manifested in the mill buildings which have been converted to other uses.
This statue of Thomas Coats was erected by public subscription in 1898.
This evening, I am posting a video clip of a very old grave marker from the grounds of Paisley Abbey. This is a recumbent stone which records the death of the Rev. Samuel Kinloch, Pastor ordained . Born June 14th 1769 died Nov 21st 1808 age 78 yrs.

This afternoon, I am posting a video clip of a Hamilton family memorial from Eastwood Old Cemetery. Here is the detail:

This tells a fascinating story of a Doctor who dies at age 42 yrs and two sons who are both killed in the Great War albeit fighting for separate armies ( Canada and Australia), both in their later 40s.

This morning, I visited Glasgow's Southern Necropolis (near to the Gorbals) and took a video clip of a memorial to Christina Risk and her four children. The latter all dying at relatively young ages although not untypical of that period when Glasgow was experiencing a population boom and was rife with disease and poor sanitation.

Mary Ann Clough, his mother's widow of Captain John Edington on Sept 12 1869.
Sister, Margaret Eliza on July 13 1890.
NB- Noting comment from Australian descendants, I visited this memorial stone again on the morning of Oct 25th 2009 and took a fresh video with additional still images. It should be noted that the inscriptions on this family memorial are very shallow and hence not easy to read after the extensive lapse of time and effects of the weather at this very exposed position. I do believe, however, that the information provided above is substantially accurate, and can, of course, be checked via official records at Scotland's People or elsewhere.
